Josh Bradley (he/him/his) is a director and creative producer who seeks to harness the power of theatre to encourage empathy, generate social change, and deepen our sense of shared humanity. His work is centered at the crossroads of storytelling, inquiry, and critique. Beginning each project by asking, “Why is this the right moment for this play?” Josh approaches each project as a call to collaboratively explore human contradictions and celebrate our shared values.
Working from the conviction that his duty as a theatre artist is to reflect the times, Josh uses the temporality of storytelling to investigate and respond to the world around us. Energized by the question “Why this play, and why right now?” he conducts inquiries, explores human contradictions, and celebrates the enduring ideals that connect us as a global community.
He is currently the Creative Producer of JB Theatricals, an independent producing company he founded. Previously, Josh was the founding Artistic Director of Relevant Theatrics, where he directed Waiting for Godot, Corpus Christi, and Tick, Tick… Boom!
A multi-hyphenate artist, Josh has written and directed short films and music-driven movement pieces, and authored several theatrical works, including the devised piece What is Written and adaptations of Alice in Wonderland, Hamlet, and Macbeth. He has developed and taught numerous classes and workshops as a teaching artist, creating curricula in acting, Shakespeare performance, scene study, improv, and Commedia dell’arte. Josh is also a once-and-future Equity stage manager, with credits spanning from New York to Chicago, and from regional houses to Disney World and the Guggenheim Museum.
This fall, Josh will begin working toward an MFA in Directing at Brooklyn College. He holds an MS in Leadership for Creative Enterprises from Northwestern University and a BA in Theatre Studies from the University of Central Florida. He is an alumnus of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s Emerging Artist Residency, where he spent a season as a director, assistant director, teaching artist, and co-director of the understudy company. He's a proud member of Actors' Equity Association (AEA) and an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC).
